(From the July 2015 edition
It was my privilege to work at The Hope of Survivors' booth at the Seventh-day Adventist General Conference in San Antonio this summer of 2015. For ten full days, we passed out brochures and educated the church on the dynamics of clergy sexual abuse that is so prevalent in our churches today. Many questions were answered and we heard over and over again from the many visitors to our booth, how important the work that we do is, how grateful they are for our ministry, and how much respect they have for the survivors. The comments were very positive and encouraging.
It is one thing for The Hope of Survivors to educate and raise awareness about clergy sexual abuse, via the website, but it is another to speak to and connect with the church, and survivors and their families, on an individual, one-on-one basis. I truly believe this is the most effective way to help others understand this very misunderstood abuse. I am thankful for the opportunity to meet and speak with so many people from all around the world.
