|Latino Division Updates: La Esperanza de los Sobrevivientes—Shyleene Rosado|
(From the April 2014 edition of HopeSpeak)
In 2013, there were 1,200 people who were reached or touched by La Esperanza de los Sobrevivientes through seminars, conventions and one-on-one communication.
In the months of January, March and August of 2013, Pastor Javier Huerta and his wife Gloria, volunteers for La Esperanza de los Sobrevivientes, offered four seminars in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Los Angeles, California. Through these seminars, they helped victims of abuse and educated the congregation by making them aware that clergy sexual abuse exists.
La Esperanza de los Sobrevivientes once again participated in the ASI International Convention in Orlando, Florida, with an exhibit booth. This opportunity allowed me and my husband Carlos to provide information about clergy sexual abuse and prevention to people who gathered at this event from all around the world.
Also this year, La Esperanza de los Sobrevivientes participated in the Clergy Sexual Abuse Awareness & Prevention® campaign during the month of August by using Facebook as a media outlet to encourage and educate others about this topic. We want people to understand this type of abuse exists and help them know how to prevent it. If someone has already been abused, we provide useful resources so they can overcome the physical, emotional and spiritual abuse they have suffered.
